What you need to know when ordering custom:
What is it made from?
I often get asked what the jewelry is made from when I am doing a vendor event. I have had some say it feels like leather, plastic, and even an elephants tail! I make all of the horsehair creations using the horse's tail hair. In my experience, the mane hair is too fine to do much with, but if that is all you have then there are options available.
I have stock colors on hand if you do not have a horse or do not want to cut their tail. I get the hair from the same place many people get hair for "fake" tails in the showring. I do not keep hair that is sent in for future use - if there is any left then it is sent back with the creation.
If you are sending in hair, please make sure it is rubber banded at the top, put in a sealed Ziploc bag, and your name is on that bag before it is put into a mailer to send to me.
While the hair does not need to be cleaned before you send it to me, it makes it easier (and less waste) if the hair is brushed before cutting. Picking the Perfect Design
Take a look through the designs that I have to offer and see if something speaks to you!
Remember, you are looking for the general style of the creations because the colors and bead choices are almost unlimited.
Also, there are some added options available such as a stamped name on the clasp, a stamped name plate for the flat braid bracelets, even custom photo pendants and keyfobs!
Go check out those patterns but don't get too overwhelmed! Narrow it down and then we can discuss what may work best for you.
Deciding on the Braid Style
When ordering a custom horsehair creation, getting to pick the style and color is part of the fun! Below is a little info on the offerings.
Braid Styles:
I currently offer 6 different braid styles. Some only work for a few of the horsehair options and some work for all! I will have in the descriptions which work best for that style piece but please feel free to ask me any questions!
For double stranded bracelets, only the half round and square braids work.
Stock Horsehair Colors:
These colors are what I keep on stock. You can choose to make a custom horsehair product from any of these colors. Don't have enough tail hair? Let me know you are ok with having some added in and I can match it to the hair you do have. Also, different combinations can be used in the bracelets to give an even more custom look!
Decisions are made, now what?
Once you have made the decisions on style, colors, and design, it is time to sit back and wait while I work my magic! Custom creations take time, and during the process I will let you know what to expect. Most have a turn around time between two and four weeks from time of payment.
